Stacey’s Top 10 Films For 2012

Stacey’s Top 10 Films For 2012

2012 has come and gone. So it’s time to put a top ten together.

I judge a film on how it touches me emotionally and the thought that goes into the plot. I don’t care about whether or not a film has big explosions or a fabulously large budget. The actors have to act, the director needs to have vision and the editing and effects largely make up for the reasons why audiences are able to escape for a small while and become engrossed in the world of the particular film.

Here’s my list for you;

10 – THE LUCKY ONE – I have read almost all of Nicholas Sparks books so far and love them all. I wasn’t a fan of the adaptations until he work with Cassavetes in 2004 on The Notebook. Zac Efron and Tayor Schilling were great in this film and it was a great film based on the story. I really loved this film after reading the book which is a really good sign.

9 – 21 JUMP STREET – Even though they are making a film based on the 1989 TV show, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum were paired quite well. Jonah’s comedy and Channing’s serious tone mixed well together. I was in stitches throughout. P.S. the certain body part that was ‘shot off’ at the end was actually a banana!

8 – THE AVENGERS – A great film and the box office proved it. Need I say more?

7 – WRECK-IT RALPH – After watching this film I now think characters in arcade games have their own secret lives. This film had the right mix of comedy and drama and the graphics had a lot of thought put in to them. Well done Rich Moore.

6 – KILLING THEM SOFTLY – This film, to me, was done particularly well with the technical side of things. I loved the soundtrack, cinematography and the film had originality. I found it violently beautiful.

5 – THE INTOUCHABLES – Even though it was released in France in 2011, The Australian release was 2012. The film is French and subtitled English, but that didn’t matter because it was that good it made my malteasers taste bad – and I love malteasers! The film was well done and inspiring. I left the cinema in tears.

4 – THE HUNGER GAMES – This film was interesting and different. Having not read the books, I was amazed at how involved I became to the storyline. Great film and I now have a new lady-crush on Jennifer Lawrence.

3 – ARGO – Ben Affleck has definitely stepped up in my eyes after watching this film. I waited until the end of the film to race to bathroom so I could watch the film uninterrupted. That’s gotta say something!

2 – RUBY SPARKS -I’m a romantic and I love quirky, romantic (never going to happen in real life) films. This film touched me in a way and I found it to be a great love story. I shed a tear towards the end and it left me thinking about the film for days (months more like it) after watching it. When that happens, you know the film is a good one.

1 – LOOPER – I thought this film was done exceptionally well. I loved every aspect of it and the performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt were fantastic. I was excited for weeks/months to see this film and the wait was definitely worth it.

No, Ryan Gosling hasn’t made my top 10 with not having a film released in Australia in 2012. But we get to see him in Gangster Squad in less than a week! 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for films. I’m seriously excited.
