David Stratton Q&A

David Stratton Q&A

Attention Perthians! Calling all David Stratton Fans! Luna Palace Cinemas, along with Transmission Films, is delighted to present an exclusive one-off Q&A screening with Australia’s most beloved cinephile, David Stratton. Stratton, who is synonymous with Australian cinema, will answer questions following a screening of the poignant and compelling documentary about his life and love of film, DAVID STRATTON: A CINEMATIC LIFE. This special event will be hosted by ABC 720 movie critic Mark Naglazas.

Directed by Sally Aitken, DAVID STRATTON: A CINEMATIC LIFE is the story of how a love affair with Australian cinema led one man to understand himself and his adopted country. It tracks Stratton’s love of films from his first cinema experience as a boy living in Melksham, England, to his time running the Sydney film festival and co-hosting The Movie Show and At the Movies with Margaret Pomeranz. The documentary is a compelling personal journey with arguably Australia’s most beloved film critic as he relates the fascinating development of our cinema history.

Stratton guides us from his boyhood cinema experience of Australia in England, where he saw the first images of this strange and exotic landscape via the medium of film, to his migration to Australia as a ‘ten pound pom’ in 1963 and onto his present day reflections on the iconic themes that run through our cinematic legacy. All of this reflects a passionate engagement in a uniquely Australian medium. Parallel and at the heart of the series is the story of an industry whose growing pains Stratton has witnessed over a lifetime. Alongside him, the protagonists of this history are the giants of Australian cinema – both behind the camera and in front of it.

The film features Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, George Miller, Gillian Armstrong and Geoffrey Rush, who pay tribute to the Australian cinephile and critic. The event will be on Sunday 26th February at the WIndsor Cinema, Nedlands. The screening starts at 4pm and is followed by the Q&A.
