Trailers Roundup: Elysium, Carrie, Behind the Candelabra, Rush, Grown Ups 2

Once again another big week in trailers including Elysium (Matt Damon, Jodie Foster), Carrie (Chloe Grace-Moretz), Behind the Candelabra (Michael Douglas, Matt Damon), Rush (Chris Hemsworth) and Grown Up’s 2 (Adam Sandler).

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.  The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle.  The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium.  With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Directed By – Neill Blomkamp
Cast – Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley

Elysium looks absolutely fantastic, with his first film being District 9 I was really excited to see what he gets up to next. Elysium opens in cinemas on August 15.

Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz) is a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Directed By – Kimberly Pierce
Cast – Chlöe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Alex Russell, Judy Greer

Really excited to see this film but I do think the trailer gives a little to much away for people who haven’t seen the original. Carrie opens on November 14th

HBO Films presents Behind the Candelabra, starring Academy Award winners Michael Douglas and Matt Damon; executive produced by Jerry Weintraub; directed by Steven Soderbergh (Sex Lies and Videotape, Out of Sight, Traffic, Ocean’s 11 – 13, Solaris, The Good German, Che, The Girlfriend Experience, The Informant, Contagion, Haywire, Magic Mike, Side Effects) from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Richard LaGravenese (of The Fisher King, The Horse Whisperer, P.S. I Love You, Water for Elephants, Beautiful Creatures). The film is produced by Gregory Jacobs, Susan Ekins and Michael Polaire.

Directed By – Steven Soderbergh
Cast – Michael Douglas, Matt Damon

This isn’t getting a cinema release but I thought with the actors and director involved it was worth to post up, plus the story looks pretty great! Behind the Candelabra is coming out via HBO on May 26th.

Two-time Academy Award® winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teams once again with fellow two-time Academy Award® nominee, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.

Directed By – Ron Howard
Starring – Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl

RUSH looks incredible and with Ron Howard behind the camera I’m really excited about seeing it, plus the story is as the synopsis said one of the greatest rivals ever (well in the world of sport). Can’t wait to see this! RUSH opens on the 12th September.

The all-star comedy cast from Grown Ups returns (with some exciting new additions) for more summertime laughs. Lenny (Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school.

Directed By – Dennis Dugan
Cast – Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Mario Bello, Nick Swardson and Taylor Lautner

I really enjoyed the first Grown Up’s movie it was a whole lot of fun but this time around I’m not to sure and the fact there’s no Rob Schneider (who gave us the majority of the laughs in the first film, for some reason isn’t in this one) but I’m still keen to see it, intrigued. Grown Up’s 2 opens on the 19th September.
