THESE FINAL HOURS, the debut feature from Writer-Director Zak Hilditch and Producer Liz Kearney has been snapped up by Roadshow Films, Australia’s largest independent Distributor.
Executive Producer Robert Connolly’s CinemaPlus who closed the deal today said of the partnership, “This is an exciting opportunity for such talented filmmakers to have their debut feature film released to an Australian audience and we have a hugely passionate distributor in Roadshow Films.”
Filmed over five weeks in Western Australia, the apocalyptic thriller recently won the coveted The Age Critic’s award for best Australian Feature at the 2013 Melbourne International Film Festival.
The film asks the hard hitting question “What would you do on the last day on Earth?”It tells the story of a self-obsessed young man (Nathan Phillips) as he makes his way to the party-to-end-all-parties on the last day on Earth and stars an ensemble of rising Australian acting talent.
Hilditch, who wrote and directed the project, is one of Australia’s foremost up and coming talents. His short film Transmission which was made as a companion piece for These Final Hours was nominated for Best Film at the 2013 AACTA Awards and won Best Screenplay. He has written and directed numerous short films and no budget features which have screened in festivals around the world including Tribeca, Slamdance, Uppsala, St Kilda and Flickerfest.
These Final Hours was developed through Screen Australia’s Springboard program and with the assistance of ScreenWest.“ScreenWest is pleased to see a great partnership developing between a ScreenWest funded film and a terrific Distributor such as Roadshow Films. Now with Roadshow’s help a distinctive WA story by a talented team will be seen all across the country,” said ScreenWest Chief Executive Ian Booth.
Roadshow Films has a strong history in releasing Australian titles including The Great Gatsby, Red Dog, Wolf Creek and The Castle.
