With the theatrical release of Avengers a mere few weeks away marvel movie buffs are in a for a treat but the show won’t stop when the credits roll, move movies are on the way with talk of Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and even Avengers 2 already underway.
The sequel for the first avenger’s own film franchise has now been given a release date with Captain America 2 scheduled for an April 4, 2014 release. It seems that the new film will pick up sometime after the events of the first Avengers film, and will keep things in the modern-day, keeping in line with where events of the first film ended. Official word from Marvel states the following;
The second instalment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.
Rumours are now circulating about who will be in the director’s chair for Captain 2, with the first film’s director Joe Johnston not set to return for the sequel. Current contenders are rumoured to include directing team Joe and Anthony Russo, as well as George Nolfi.
Joe and Anthony Russo both worked on multiple episodes of Arrested Development, You, Me and Dupree, and more recently episodes of Community. George Nolfi took the helm for 2011’s The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon.
Whether or not we’ll see any new names added to the list remains to be seen, the current shortlist doesn’t really evoke any feelings of inspiration or otherwise, with relatively low profile possibilities on the table it could point toward efforts being taken to lower production costs on the marvel superhero franchises?
We’ll let you know as things progress, in the meantime Avengers is released on Wednesday 25th April.
