Dawn of Planet of the Apes Dominates Box Office!

Hail Caesar indeed! The aging ape sure ain’t suffering from sequel blues. His new film scored big at the box office on it’s opening weekend, as well as securing killer reviews. Nice one, Caesar!

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES achieved an impressive $104.1 million internationally over the weekend, including 6.6 million taken in Australia.

The sequel (which cost Fox an estimated $170 million) opens three years after origin movie RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES reinvigorated the iconic franchise.

That film, directed by Rupert Wyatt, took in a strong total of $481.8 million at the worldwide box office – meaning in a mere 4 days, it’s sequel has already made nearly a quarter of the total takings of it’s predecessor.

Directed by Matt Reeves, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES sees Andy Serkis returning in the role of Caesar, who has decamped to the forest of Marin County with a pack of fellow genetically evolved apes and primates.

When threatened by a band of humans who have survived a worldwide plague, a fierce divide erupts. Who will come out as Earth’s dominate species?

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
