Star Wars Abu Dhabi Shoot!

Star Wars Abu Dhabi Shoot!

There’s never been a better excuse for a spontaneous holiday to the United Arab Emirates, with filming for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII scheduled to start Tuesday.

Abu Dhabi will be doubling as our favourite planet, Tatooine. Some of the stars have already arrived, and shooting is to continue until the end of the month.

The National reports the sets are close to completion, with a “whole world” having been built on a salt lake at one of the locations. There’s also talk of a “shuttle-like” spacecraft, a large tower, a “big, centuries-old-looking market”, something dubbed “the alien house”,  AND a dozen or so jet-engine powered buggies….!

Oh, let’s not forget the two trucks full of explosives which are said to have been brought to site under high security, and the purpose built blast crater.

Seems like Tatooine could be seeing some serious action!

We’ll keep you updated as shooting progresses.

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
