With Ready Player One in cinemas at the moment, Steven Spielberg has been making a some comments on the upcoming Indiana Jones V, and Harrison Ford’s involvement with the franchise.
Believe it or not, it’s already been a decade since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released in cinemas, ten years on and some critics accused Ford of being too hold for the role back then. Well that wasn’t (and isn’t) my view, as long as the role is written to suit Ford and to depict an older Indy.
According to Spielberg, Indiana Jones V is scheduled to begin production in April 2019, with filming to start in London. Further to that Spielberg also went on to comment that he’s “pretty sure”, this will be Ford’s final tour as Indiana Jones, though the series will certainly continue beyond this next film.
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020 so there’s still a while to wait to see how this one turns out. It has previously been confirmed by Indy V scriptwriter David Koepp that the character Mutt Williams is not returning, and John Rhys-Davies always seems keen to comment that he’d love to return as Sallah.
With a 2020 release, we’ll all have to keep waiting on further details as things progress, but here’s hoping Ford’s take on Indy goes out on a high note.
