Amongst the endless speculation that Ben Affleck’s future in the role of Batman is uncertain, one of the popular theories has been that Jake Gyllenhaal had been approached about taking on the role. A future Flash film would provide the perfect opportunity to execute a replacement while maintaining continuity of the films, given the reality altering stories which the Flash character lends itself to. However Gyllenhaal himself has torpedoed this current rumor, at least for now, during a recent interview where he was directly asked if he’s stepping into the role for Matt Reeve’s solo Batman film.
The actor’s response seems pretty definitive;
Wow, that’s a very difficult question. The answer to that question is no.
So if Gyllenhaal is a no, does that mean Affleck is sticking around for the time being? Might we see Batman’s character take a break from the cinematic universe for a short while or will another actor be found to take up the mantle, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Also in DC film news the Rock who is currently promoting his new monster mash film “Rampage”, made a few comments regarding his previously announced casting as the anti-hero Black Adam who also forms part of the DC universe. The Rock made the following comments…
The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. We’re very excited about it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie in production.
Warner Bros. have Aquaman being released this year, with Suicide Squad 2, Flash, and of course Shazam (with Zachary Levi) to follow soon after, so how the DC universe is faring at the box office with these films is also going to impact where the Black Adam film might wind up in the larger scheme of things. All eyes will be on Aquaman at the end of this year to recover from the box office and critical disappointment that was Justice League.
