Duncan Jones to Direct World of Warcraft Flick

So dreams can come true… or at least geek dreams can with sci-fi director Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) given the go-ahead to helm the film adaptation of World of Warcraft.

One of the most popular computer games of all time (so popular infact that I even considered joining the phenomenon once….once), Legendary Pictures has been attempting to adapt the fantasy for some time. Sam Raimi (Spiderman) was attached to direct during early discussions but dropped out so the actual project will see Jones step up to the plate.

Judging by his Twitter posts, Jones is rather excited to say the least (not to mention openly confident):

“The gauntlet was thrown down ages ago,” posted Jones “Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. I’ve always said it’s possible. Got to DO it now!

Jones is said to be getting a cool $100m budget to make his promise a reality, and with the script already in the bag, it’s time to start spending some of that casholla getting things going!

No cast announcements yet, however Hollywood gossip is suggesting Johnny Depp may be up for the starring role (WHAT THE?). Reportedly producers Thomas Tull and John Jashni are keen on an autumn start date, so things should get moving pretty quickly.

World Of Warcraft is tentatively expected to open in 2015. Stay tuned for more info as it is released.

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
