Exclusive to Luna this weekend, Perthites. The world’s fascination with zombies has reached fever pitch in recent years, gripping the collective hearts and imagination of the public. However, while the human characters are usually on the run, Dominique Rocher’s debut feature explores such a scenario in a far gentler way – a zombie flick for those who wouldn’t usually watch zombie films – from the confines of one Parisian apartment.
Based on the novel by Pit Argarmen, the storyline follows Sam (Anders Danielsen Lie) who turns up at his ex-girlfriend’s place during a raucous party to claim some personal belongings he accidentally left behind. To avoid sparking a bitter confrontation, he locks himself in a back room while getting things in order, and falls asleep in the process. When he wakes up, the party has turned into a bloodbath and the world beyond the apartment is looking similarly messy.
Echoing Will Smith’s plight in I Am Legend, Sam risks his life to befriend a cat and settles for the one-way companionship of an old-man-turned-zombie (Denis Lavant) to stave off the loneliness. Is there anyone out there like him? Or will he be consumed by his own insanity, if not by zombies? (FRENCH, NORWEGIAN, ENGLISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
