Hollywood is loving the reboots/remakes right now. Here comes a reboot of the remake of The Mummy!
Universal Pictures is setting Len Wiseman (Total Recall reboot, Die Hard 4.0, Underworld: Evolution) to direct The Mummy, the reboot of a franchise whose most recent incarnation grossed $1.25 billion over three films. It seems Wiseman is the go-to guy for sequels and remakes judging by his current directorial CV…
Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) is writing the script and the studio is said to be eyeing a potential summer 2014 release, so things are moving quickly, with Universal apparently eager to ramp back up one of its most venerable franchises.
According to statements by Wiseman to American press, the new flick will put the bandaged badie into a modern-day context, offering a “darker take on the material, a scarier version”.
I don’t know whether to run for the hills or to start making the days off on my calendar… thoughts?
