Here is some news to see in your weekend, with Jay and Silent Bob returning in Jay and Bob Reboot later this year, spare a thought for what’s going on in the Harold and Kumar camp at the moment.
The Harold and Kumar films starring Kal Penn and John Cho were a bit of a regular thing spanning 2004 to 2011 with three feature films released, but its all been quiet for those characters over the last few years with each of the lead actors moving on to big things since those films.
Cho of course joined the re-launched Star Trek film series, and Penn has been up to all sorts of things including working for Barack Obama and spreading his dramatic acting wings on House and The Namesake, as well as recent comedy series Sunnyside.
It turns out however that despite their busy schedules, Harold and Kumar never drift very far from their minds. Penn commented during a panel promoting the show Sunnyside that he’d recently been talking to Harold and Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg about ideas for a potential new film.
It seems everyone involved with Harold and Kumar has done fairly well as both Hurwitz and Schlossberg are currently working on Cobra Kai season three, while Cho is also on a Cowboy Bebop mini-series.
Penn went on to say that while timing isn’t great right now, hopefully toward the end of the year as each of them wrap up their current projects they’ll start being able to throw some ideas around for another film.
While this sort of news and comment is a far cry from seeing a new film go into production, at least everyone involved still seems to think kindly of Harold and Kumar which only helps the chance of seeing a new film kick off sometime sooner rather than later.
