Written and executive produced by Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) and directed by Nicole Kassell (Westworld, The Leftovers), the 10-part series embraces the nostalgia of the original ground-breaking graphic novel of the same name, while setting out to break new ground of its own.
Watchmen is based on the iconic graphic novels and is set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws. The series begins in Tulsa, Oklahoma in an alternate 2019—one with no internet or smartphones—34 years after the comic ends. Robert Redford is the longest-serving President of the United States, having been elected in 1992. After a white supremacist group that calls themselves “The Seventh Cavalry” (wearing homemade Rorschach masks) commits simultaneous attacks on the houses of police members, the police start wearing masks.
Nine Inch Nails musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have created the original music for the series.
