We’ve seen a few announcements for the new Robocop film over the last few months with Jose Padilha being attached to direct the project as well as Joel Kinnaman on board in the lead role. Kinnaman was recently on screens in the films ‘Safe House’ and ‘The Darkest Hour’ and has appeared in the TV series ‘The Killing’.
A few more casting announcement have now been made as the film makes its way through the pre-production process, a man who needs no introduction ‘Sam Jackson’ has been cast in the film, alongside Gary Oldman.
The Robocop cast is shaping up into a nice pool of talent to draw upon for the film, and with an estimated budget of $100 million the film should achieve some nice production values.
In terms of whether the story will deliver we’ll have to wait and see, the project currently has no less than five writers attached so hopefully things won’t become too convoluted with each writer leaving their own mark on the film.Included among the writers is both Michael Miner and Edward Neumeier, both having worked on a number of Robocop related projects over the years including the original film and its two sequels.
Robocop is currently targeting a late 2013 release date.
