Del Toro Shifts Focus To Pacific Rim

Del Toro Shifts Focus To Pacific Rim

Guillermo Del Toro has been announced as the director for Legendary Pictures new monster movie release, Pacific Rim. Seeing a summer 2013 release, Guillermo will also be producing with Legendary’s Josh Jashni and Thomas Tull, it will also be given a PG 13 rating.

Guillermo, previously attached to the Lovecraft adaptation; At The Mountains of Madness, became frustrated with the studio continuingly halting the project due to budget and rating disputes (the studio wished the film to be a PG 13 release where, as a passion of Del Toro’s he envisioned the film to be a scary and intense fright film). He saw an opportunity to make something fun and he ran with it. He believes that he will have greater control and comparative passion for this next project and is enthusiastic about Legendary’s involvement.

“We started developing PAC RIM a while ago with the mad passion and enthusiasm of a project unwatched and unchecked by politics or comparisons. We designed and shepherded the movie we want to make. We start shooting in September and we hit the ground running because we are so in sync. My partnership with Legendary represents, both in scale and creative demands, a huge step forward for me.”

Pacific Rim will centre on a powerful extraterrestrial force that threatens the earth.

*Universal has dropped At the Mountains Of Madness and there are talks that it may get picked up by another studio. With James Cameron also attached to the project, some insiders hope that Fox Studios may pick it up. This may prove difficult as it appears to be one of the most expensive horror movies ever envisioned, if Del Toro returns to Mountains after he is finished with Pacific Rim, Insiders hope that the new studio may find a way to compromise and go ahead.
