Now that the recently saved MGM Studios are getting back on their feet financially. the company is looking to partner with a distributor for the next James Bond film.
With their current deal with Fox Home Entertainment to distribute the MGM library on DVD & BluRay finishing at the end of this year, FOX has pulled out of contention. Paramount, has also pulled out of negotiations due to the fact that they will not go below an 8% revenue deal.
Sony Entertainment has thrown their hat in the ring and looks like they will be releasing the as yet untitled 23rd Bond Film.
Sony, who also own Columbia Pictures & Coca-Cola, co-financed the previous 2 Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Sony sold the rights to MGM’s library to FOX Home Entertainment due to slow DVD and BluRay sales.
The deal, which is close to being sealed, means that Sony with provide 50% of the finance on Bond 23 and 25% finance on Bond 24.
Great news for fans of 007. Let’s hope that the ADHD direction of the last film is replaced by good storytelling and shots that last more than 3 seconds.
News of potential casting have surfaced on the net for the new flick as well.
Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) has reportedly been offered the Antagonist role in the new film and reports that Ralph Fiennes has been talking to the producers. Maybe Fiennes could be the next Q?
Bond 23 is on track for a November 9, 2012 release date
