The first highlights of the 2026 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival have been announced, with the festival returning to Perth cinema screens this September.
Presented by Palace, the 2026 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival will showcase Italian filmmaking and acting talent on the big screen, bringing a selection of new films to Australian audiences this Spring.
In Perth, the festival screens at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Cinemas Leederville, Windsor Cinema Nedlands and Luna on SX Fremantle from September 24 to October 18.
Italian Film Festival Perth 2026 Highlights Announced
The 2026 Festival Special Presentation is the bittersweet romantic drama Three Goodbyes (Tre ciotole), based on the bestselling novel by Michela Murgia. Starring acclaimed actors Alba Rohrwacher and Elio Germano, the film follows a couple whose lives dramatically change after they split up following what appears to be a trivial argument.
Directed by and starring Rocco Papaleo, The Greater Good (Il bene comune) is described as both a story of resilience and a heartfelt love letter to the southern Italian region of Basilicata. The film follows a hiking group whose search for an ancient pine tree in Pollino National Park becomes a transformative journey.
The Eyes of Others (Gli occhi degli altri) stars Jasmine Trinca and Filippo Timi and takes inspiration from sensational real events among the elite in 1960s Italy. Set on the scenic Pontine Islands archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, the thriller explores passion and crime against the wild beauty of an island owned by an immensely wealthy marquis.
The comedy Twin Stars (Stella gemella) follows a couple facing a relationship crisis who suddenly learn they are expecting twins. However, in an extremely rare twist, each twin has a different father. The film features supporting performances from Margherita Buy and Laura Morante and explores family, modern love and self-discovery.
Intergenerational dramatic comedy Classmates (Domani interrogo), based on Gaja Cenciarelli’s novel, stars Anna Ferzetti as a devoted English teacher assigned to the toughest class in a Rome high school. The film highlights the power of education, respect and community in today’s classrooms.
Incanto is a fantasy family adventure about imagination and kindness, following a young girl who escapes her controlling guardian and discovers a magical circus, where she begins to find her voice.
The full 2026 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival programme will be announced in late August, with tickets also set to go on sale at that time.
