Marvel Studios has unleashed new Avengers: Doomsday footage at D23, offering another huge look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and the epic battle heading to cinemas this December.
The footage was revealed during Marvel Studios’ D23 presentation, where Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell took to the stage to help showcase the highly anticipated next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And if there was any doubt about who stands at the centre of Avengers: Doomsday, the latest footage makes it very clear: Doctor Doom has arrived.
Avengers Doomsday D23 Footage Puts Doctor Doom Front and Centre
Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom takes a commanding role in the footage. We get several striking new shots of the armoured villain and a better look at the incredible power he brings to the MCU.
One of the biggest moments sees Doom standing alongside his imposing Doombots. Another shows him unleashing a blast of energy as Marvel continues to establish the scale of the threat facing its heroes.
The footage also brings Chris Hemsworth’s Thor into the action. A confrontation between the God of Thunder and Doom offers an early indication of just how powerful Marvel’s new villain could be.
But Doom isn’t the only familiar face getting attention.
Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell Return
Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers following his emotional departure in Avengers: Endgame. The new footage also features Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, bringing two of the MCU’s most beloved characters back into the story.
Their appearance raises plenty of questions about exactly where Steve and Peggy fit into the increasingly complicated events surrounding Doomsday.
Marvel’s First Family will also play a major role in the film. Pedro Pascal returns as Reed Richards alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.
The X-Men are joining the fight as well, bringing several generations of Marvel characters together for what is shaping up to be the MCU’s biggest crossover since Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel’s Biggest Heroes Face Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday also marks the MCU return of directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The pair previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The enormous ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom.
With the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Doctor Doom all colliding, Marvel is clearly positioning Avengers: Doomsday as a major cinematic event.
The new D23 poster also puts Doom firmly in the spotlight ahead of the film’s arrival later this year.
