A New Story From the World of The Social Network
The Social Reckoning is being described as a companion piece to the hit 2010 film The Social Network.
Rather than returning to the creation of Facebook, the new movie jumps forward to another defining chapter in the company’s history.
The story follows Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison.
Haugen is a young Facebook engineer who becomes concerned by what she discovers inside the company.
She eventually seeks the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White.
Together, they begin a dangerous journey that ultimately exposes some of the social network’s most closely guarded secrets.
The Facebook Files Come to the Big Screen
The film is based on the events that led to The Wall Street Journal’s investigation known as The Facebook Files.
The series was published in 2021 and drew on internal company documents supplied by Haugen.
Those documents helped fuel a much wider debate about Facebook, its influence and the responsibilities of major social media platforms.
For Sorkin, it provides a very different perspective on the company he first explored more than 15 years ago.
Aaron Sorkin Returns to Facebook
Sorkin wrote the screenplay for David Fincher’s The Social Network, which explored Facebook’s creation and the legal battles surrounding its early years.

The 2010 film became one of the defining dramas of its era. It also earned Sorkin the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Now he is returning to the subject from the director’s chair.
Sorkin has written and directed The Social Reckoning, shifting the focus from Facebook’s rise to the consequences of what it became.
Jeremy Strong Takes on Mark Zuckerberg
There is also a major change at the centre of the Facebook story.
Jeremy Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning.
Jesse Eisenberg famously played the Facebook founder in The Social Network, earning an Academy Award nomination for his performance.
However, The Social Reckoning takes place much later in Facebook’s history. Strong now steps into the role as Sorkin explores a different era of the company.
The Social Reckoning Cast
The new film has assembled an impressive cast.
Mikey Madison stars as Frances Haugen, while Jeremy Allen White plays journalist Jeff Horwitz.
They are joined by Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin and Billy Magnussen, with Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong.
Sorkin also serves as a producer alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser.
