Western Australia’s peak film body, ScreenWest, is thrilled to announce this year’s Get Your Shorts On! program, which will delight and inspire as it showcases the talents of WA’s emerging filmmakers. Screening as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, this year’s Get Your Shorts On! features short films that explore the ways we look at light, hear sound, express our grief and accept diversity.
Get Your Shorts On! commences with a burst of colour with Invisible Light, followed by the inspiring story of photographer Tash Nannup in Revealing The Hidden World, a musical interlude with The Shapes: Cool Rock Video & I’m A Genius, whimsical comedy Normal People, the delicate beauty of Sol Bunker, the heart wrenching portrayal of grief in Outline, a history of displacement as told with shadow puppets in Shadows Of Displacement and finishes with a flourish with the drama Reflection.
ScreenWest Chief Executive Ian Booth said the program highlights the diversity of stories being made in Western Australia.“This year’s Get Your Shorts On! program is a wonderful mix of dramas and documentaries,” Mr Booth said. “There’s stories that make us think, ones that we feel in the heart, whilst others are comedy gold.”
Several of the Get Your Shorts On! films have been nominated for the upcoming WA Screen Awards, highlighting the caliber of the films from this year’s program. These nominations span several categories including Best Short Drama, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Performance by an Actress.
All Get Your Shorts On! films received funding support from either ScreenWest, Lotterywest, FTI or Screen Australia and were filmed in locations across Western Australia. Get Your Shorts On! screens Thursday, 14 July at the Luna Palace Cinema in Leederville at 7pm. Tickets are $18.50 ($15 concession). Check out the Rev website for more details.
