Stephen King’s IT is doing cracking business. Now there’s non-killer-clownish King headed our way with an adaptation of the novella 1922 from his 2010 collection Full Dark, No Stars.
The story centres on farmer Wilfred James, played by Thomas Jane. As the trailer makes clear, he kills his wife Arlene (Molly Parker), stows the body and lies to the authorities. But then his mind begins unravelling. Or maybe he’s haunted. Whether his wife has returned in ghostly form or not, his life starts coming apart. Oh yes, and then there’s a multitude of crawling, squeaking, hairy rats.
There’s an unexpected Western Australian connection to the film. The adaptation was written and directed by Zak Hilditch who made the 2013 end-of-the-world feature THESE FINAL HOURS. AccessReel have an upcoming interview with Hilditch that will run nearer 1922’s premiere.
1922 hits Netflix on October 20th and also stars Dylan Schmid, Kaitlyn Bernard, Brian D’Arcy James and Neal McDonough. Until then, enjoy this here trailer and the rats.
