An adaptation of the 1992 film A League of Their Own is in development at Amazon. Broad City co-creator/star Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) are co-writing and are currently in negotiations, however no deals have been struck.
It is pitched as a different take on the story than told in the hit film that starred Tom Hanks as the manager of the all-female Rockford Peaches, whose players included Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell and Lori Petty. The Penny Marshall-directed movie took $132 million internationally and was the number ten film of 1992.
The idea is not to retread the rivalry between the Davis and Petty sister characters, Dottie and Kit, but it would start with the formation of the women’s baseball league in 1943 and follow the Rockford Peaches as they travel “across a rapidly changing United States.” The show will be a series of half-hour sitcoms.
