A Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe?

Take this one with a grain of salt but the latest reports on Ghostbusters are now indicating that there’s a “Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe” in the works!

The newest rumors are suggesting that in addition to the previously announced female-led reboot of the franchise, that a male-orientated film would follow-up the reboot from director Paul Feig sometime shortly after 2016.

It seems that original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd alongside director Ivan Reitman have been handed some form over oversight role in managing the Ghostbusters universe, including lending a guiding hand into expanding the franchise into more films, TV, and merchandising related activities.

Channing Tatum is a name that’s been mentioned as potentially leading the second new film in the rebooted Ghostbusters universe, with Joe and Anthony Russo attached as directors. The Russo’s of course are riding high after their 2014 success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

While the Tatum-led film wouldn’t be intended as a direct sequel to Paul Feig’s film, it would most certainly exist in the same setting, with potential future cross over opportunities.

Sounds like maybe a step too far in the world of Ghostbusters films?

In other Ghostbusters related news, the Ghostbusters: Board Game launched on KickStarter early February this year with a goal of $250,000 in mind. As at the time of writing this, the kickstarter project has reached over $1.1 million, with only one stretch goal remaining to be unlocked – which will no doubt be reached in the remaining 40 hours of the pledge period.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
