AccessReel Reviews – Grown Ups

“Grown Ups, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph) and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.

I walked into this film with low expectations with Sandlers last couple of films including Zohan and Funny People I really didn’t expect a great film, but funnily enough once again I got it wrong. GROWN UPS is fantastic with a cast including Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade and of course Adam Sandler I really should’nt have lowered anything. Sandler also brings back his mates once again from previous films with cameos, including Steve Buscemi and Norm MacDonald.

Its also great to see Rob Schneider in a larger role other then the “You Can Do It” guy, out of all the different characters I feel he got one of the best roles and actually the funniest! I also felt that before the script even got written the main guys sat around and talked about there childhood, what nicknames they had and what sort of bullying they coped in school because some of the running jokes within the film actually came off as pretty real especially when Rob cops it about his voice.

I can’t really fault the movie to much but I do wish it was an M or even an MA. I know that Sony was prolly pushing for a PG audience considering the Australian School Holidays are about to start but evenstill It would have been a better movie if it was a bit more cruder. All the performances from the cast were great and never know there could always been a sequal.

GROWN UPS is a great film, full of laughs and also a pretty good story. Its now showing in Cinemas Everywhere. I Give this film 4 out of 5 stars.
