AccessReel Reviews – No Strings Attached

In this comedy, Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) are life-long friends who almost ruin everything by having sex one morning. In order to protect their friendship, they make a pact to keep their relationship strictly “no strings attached.” “No strings” means no jealousy, no expectations, no fighting, no flowers, no baby voices. It means they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, in whatever public place they want, as long as they don’t fall in love. The questions become – Can you have sex without love getting in the way? And can their friendship survive?

NO STRINGS ATTACHED has all the boxes ticked, cast, MA rating and a pretty fun storyline. What we see here is, will a relationship that’s strictly physical actually work? It’s always been quite the interesting subject that has played out on screen many times before but with this film the dynamic has changed. I walked into this film thinking it was just another chick flick and by looking at the crowd around me it sure felt that way but within ten minutes in I thought to myself this movie is just as much for us blokes as it is for the girls.

Now I love Natalie Portman I really can’t think of any role she has done that I haven’t enjoyed and for anyone that has really doubted her as a Best Actress Nominee for Black Swan should go catch this film as well, they are worlds apart and you can just see the range that Portman offers! In NO STRINGS ATTACHED she plays the ever so quirky but hardcore Doctor Emma who’s so far into her work life that a relationship is just out of the question! In steps Adam played by Ashton Kutcher who’s just found out his Father is dating his incredibly hot ex girlfriend! Hilarity ensues as the relationship between Adam and his Father played by Kevin Kline is just hilarious! I will say that this film is full of classic one liners a couple of which had me in stiches.

There is only one scene in the entire film that let me down I won’t go into it to much as it is in part the end of the film but when you see it I’m pretty sure you will know, the dialog from Kutcher just seemed way to forced and just the look on his face it seemed to me he didn’t want to say either! Take a guess and tell me if you know which line it is? Other then that it’s a great rom-com, it is predictable but these days which rom-com isn’t!

NO STRINGS ATTACHED is a hilariously funny and sweet film I actually do think I will be heading back to the cinema for a second viewing. If anyone needs a film to check out for Valentines Day, this is the one.

I give NO STRINGS ATTACHED 3.5/5 its in Cinemas everywhere right now and is Rated MA.
