AccessReel Reviews – The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Now I know some people will give me crap over this but funnily enough I actually enjoyed this movie. As some of you know I’m a massive fan of visuals and seeing this film in IMAX and the fact it was digital, it just looked flawless! I’ve seen the previous two Twilight Films and I thought they were ‘just ok’ the second one is definitely a hundred times better then the first, it seems to me getting David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) to direct this one has really worked in Summit’s Favour! Even though Breaking Dawn which has now been confirmed it will be broken into two films will be directed by another director, as by what has been reported the Summit Heads wanted an Oscar nominated/winner to give the film some more ‘street cred’ so they got Bill Condon for Breaking Dawn who brought us the Oscar winning film Dreamgirls.

Eclipse just had so much more going for it then the first two I felt the script was a bit tighter, the ‘fight’ scenes were more thought out and in general look and feel for the movie was fifty times better. There were still your squeamish moments where the dialog was a tad shocking and the extremely odd amount of times Jacob didn’t have a shirt on but when it comes to Twilight I sort of really expected it. I really take my hat off to David Slade who even gave this film some humour such as the first scene with a shirtless Jacob everyone in my screening laughed due to a comment that Edward makes and there were more laughs throughout the film and honestly they felt intentional and that’s how Slade wanted those scenes to be, which I reckon is great.

Now there are Flaws, as I said earlier there is some dialog which lets the film down a bit, some of the back and forth between Bella and Edward made me want to slowly cut myself and because of it I really do hope Jacob comes off in the end. For some reason I feel Edward is suffering from episodes of sub psychotic-rage he’s just so confusing in this film (angry, happy, sad) where as Jacob knows exactly what he wants. Kristen Stewart is a lot more tolerable in this one, I felt she got some amazing direction from Slade which helped her greatly. Lastly Robert Pattinson is just Robert Pattinson, nothing new, nothing different but if you want to see a film where he actually uses some skills check out ‘Remember Me’ it came out earlier this year.

Twilight Eclipse is by far the best film in the series so far and I know that all the Twihards out there they will be over the moon with the latest installment. I’m giving THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE – 4 out of 5 (Would have been 3.5 but it looked way to good in Digital IMAX)
