AccessReel Trailers – Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Although this trailer isn’t named “Trailer 2” officially, like they do now, it’s a different edit to the longer trailer you might have seen on accessreel.com.  It’s more menacing with more shots of apes and chimps running amok. If this is all news to you, then the upcoming movie is a reboot of the famous 1970s film franchise and is the work of Rupert Wyatt who directed the 2008 crime drama THE ESCAPIST. More after the jump.

The movie is set in modern San Francisco and shows man’s own experiments with genetic engineering leading to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. No word on whether this conflict is called The War on Apes in line with The War on Terrorism or The War on Drugs, but perhaps they can save that for a sequel.

James Franco stars along with the former Malfoy, Tom Pelton, and veteran movie heavy, Brian Cox. Everyone’s favourite motion-capture specialist Andy “Gollum” Serkis is Caesar, the chimp  who starts the revolution. In fact an earlier title for the film was simply “Caesar”. Freida Pinto, best known for playing the older Latika in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (2008), plays a primatologist and Conscience of The Movie.

This looks like fun. It opens in Australia on August the 4th.
