I saw this trailer before (shudder) SKYLINE last week. Like SUCKER PUNCH, this movie looks like it will be an era-blending, genre-bending load of special effects violence and mayhem. I thought it looked like a lot of fun.
Apparently THE WARRIOR’S WAY was called THE LAUNDRY WARRIOR for a time, but Hollywood being what it is decided the vaguer title sounded more martial artsy. The surprise about this big Asian fight flick is the small amount of information available about it online.
THE WARRIOR’S WAY is an English-language fantasy action film starring South Korean actor Jang Dong-gun, Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush and Danny Huston. The story concerns a warrior named Yang (Jang Dong-gun), who is forced to hide in a small town in the American badlands. He meets the town drunk (Geoffrey Rush) and a circus knife thrower (Kate Bosworth), both of whom have powerful secrets.
The film was shot in New Zealand more than two years ago and it’s been getting CG’d out the Wuxia ever since. (Sorry, fanboys, obviously this film is really Korean rather than Chinese, I’m just being a smartarse). This is the writing and directorial debut for filmmaker, Sngmoo Lee. I can’t imagine any newbie being given a budget of US $40 million to play with and I would love to know more about this. But as I neither speak nor read Korean, we’lll go along with this story for now.
Expect to hear much more about this rousing, big bucks action flick. THE WARRIOR’S WAY premieres in Australia on the 26th of January, 2011.
