Aussie Classic Film Event!

Aussie Classic Film Event!

Australian Revelations has released details of its next event: A screening and Q&A of the Aussie classic THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH.

Australia Revelations is a celebration of Australian film via monthly screenings, and this 1978 AFI award-winning flick is the latest offering.

Based on a true incident, the film received critical acclaim upon release yet (much like Aussie movies now!) it didn’t see domestic box office success.

The film reportedly had a budget of around $1.2 million – one of the most expensive films every produced in Australia at that time.

THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH follows Jim, a young part aboriginal man, who is doing everything he can to keep his head down. Yet the pressure of adapting to white culture is too much, leading him to snap…

The film screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s award winning actress Angela Punch McGregor.

The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith will screen at The Backlot Perth on Monday 21 March from 6.30pm. All tickets are $20 and are available here

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
