AVENGERS Director Joss Whedon Supports Ben Affleck as Batman

Sucks to be Ben Affleck right now, with fans crying foul at his casting as Batman in the new BATMAN VS SUPERMAN flick.

I’m sure I’m just one of millions whose facebook was inundated with wails of despair at the pretty boy’s placement in the ‘tough guy’ role. Similarly, the movie media has been in a frenzy, likening Affleck’s casting to the arguably disastrous choices of Michael Keaton and George Clooney.

Variety Magazine conducted a poll, and out of 100,000 voters 76% said Ben Affleck was a bad call to play iconic character.

Yet it appears not all comic book gurus are disappointed. AVENGERS Director Joss Whedon tweeted today:

“Affleck’ll crush it. He’s got the chops, he’s got the chin — just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe — I’m in.”

Some of the more conspiracy-minded have suggested Whedon orchestrated Affleck’s hire in an attempt to sabotage the film (which is scheduled for release a short time after AVENGERS 2), but this tweet has helped to quell these fanciful rumours.

What are your thoughts on Affleck as the next Bruce Wayne?

Sian's love for movies spawned from having a tight mother whose generosity stretched only to hiring movies once a week for entertainment. As a pre-teen Sian spent more pocket money then she earned on cinema tickets and thus sought a job at the cinema. Over the next decade she rose to be one of the greats in her backwater, six-screen cinema complex, zooming through the ranks from candy bar wench with upselling superpowers, to pasty projectionist, to a manager rocking a pencil skirt. Sian went on to study Journalism at university though feels her popcorn shovelling days were far more educational
