It’s official! In the wake of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there’s been plenty of speculation but Warner Bros. have come out and now formalised it.
Ben Affleck will both direct, and star in a new solo Batman film, as part of the current DC Cinematic Universe. The announcement comes from CinemaCon, the motion picture theatre industry convention currently taking place in Las Vegas.
Of course there’s been plenty of speculation recently, particularly around the idea that Affleck has already been working on a screenplay for such a film, and even working in conjunction with DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.
Johns is the writer behind many of the DC defining event books in recent years, including Green Lantern: Blackest Night, and the recent Justice League: Darkseid War.
Affleck directing a Batman film is a huge deal at this point, with just a few directing credits to his name, he’s built a strong reputation as a film director with critical successes including ‘Argo’ as well as ‘Gone Baby Gone’. His take on a Batman film, is one to look forwards to, and likely to be a critical entry into the DC film line-up, I can’t wait!
