A great new Aussie movie, The BBQ starring Shane Jacobson and Magda Szubanski, will be released nationally on January 18, 2018.
A gentle comic fable about family, food and fulfilling your potential, The BBQ follows laid-back suburban everyman Darren “Dazza” Cook (Jacobson), who loves to entertain his friends and neighbours with his weekly backyard barbecues. Dazza has also inherited a dubious family history linked to explorer Captain James Cook. While his 12-year-old son, Jayden, is challenged to prove this ancestral link, Dazza takes his passion for the barbecue out of the backyard and into the international arena.
The film introduces new young Australian actor Frederick Simpson and also stars Nicholas Hammond, still remembered for his youthful role in The Sound of Music. Others along for the journey are celebrity chef Manu Fieldel (MKR) in his first acting role and RockWiz’s Julia Zemiro. Director is Stephen Amis (The 25th Reich, The Real Thing). Producers are Lynne Wilson,Tait Brady and Deb Fryers.
Unusually, a movie tie-in The BBQ Cookbook, with BBQ recipes and cooking tips and behind the scenes photos, will be published by Harper Collins to coincide with the film’s release. Major promotional partners secured for the BBQ’s summer launch will include BBQ’s Galore and IGA.
