The BBQ Premiere Hots Up!

Things are hotting up for the new Australian movie comedy THE BBQ, starring Shane Jacobson, Magda Szubanski, Julia Zemiro and Manu Feildel. The producers have announced a World Premiere Screening and BBQ After-Party Street Festival in Albury-Wodonga to take place Sunday, January 14, 2018.

Albury’s heritage-listed and state-of-the-art Regent Cinemas will roll out the red carpet for stars Shane Jacobson, Julia Zemiro, Manu Feildel and local discovery Freddy Simpson, followed by a BBQ street festival after-party to celebrate the World Premiere.

Shane Jacobson, whose box office hits include ODDBALL and KENNY, and Magda Szubanski, one of Australia’s favourite comic actresses (BABE, Kath & Kim), share the screen with celebrity chef Manu Feildel (MKR) in his first acting role and RockWiz’s Julia Zemiro. The film also stars Nicholas Hammond, still remembered for his youthful role in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and introduces young Albury-born actor Frederick Simpson in his first film role.

A gentle comic fable about family, food and fulfilling your potential, The BBQ follows laid-back suburban everyman Darren “Dazza” Cook (Jacobson), who loves to entertain his friends and neighbours with his weekly backyard barbecues. Dazza has also inherited a dubious family history linked to explorer Captain James Cook.   While his 12-year-old son, Jayden, is challenged to prove this ancestral link, Dazza takes his passion for the barbecue out of the backyard and into the international arena.

“We shot most of the film in the fabulous Albury-Wodonga region and always promised to bring the film home for its World Premiere, so we are thrilled to be announcing the date for the screening and after-party, to offer Albury-Wodonga residents the opportunity to see the film first” said producer Tait Brady.
