Beauty and the Beast Back in 3D

Beauty and the Beast Back in 3D

Belle and the Beast are back on the big screen starting tomorrow in 3D for a limited engagement! It’s hard to think that it was 20 years ago since it first hit the big screen and after multiple straight to DVD sequels, a midquel (yes I said it, midquel) and a hit Broadway Musical back in 1994 the Beast is going to climb upto the castle roof one more time.

When you look at what Beauty and the Beast has achieved its no mean feat it had the Original film release in 1991 that has gone onto straight to DVD release’s with Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas which was released in 1997. It was followed in 1998 by another midquel, Belle’s Magical World, and later by a stage production of the same name and a television spin-off series, Sing Me a Story with Belle.

And we haven’t even got to the Awards its Won Beauty and the Beast was the first ever animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, and was the only animated film to hold this honour until 2009, when Pixar’s animated films Up and Toy Story 3 were nominated. Beauty and the Beast received a total of six nominations, including Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Sound, and three nominations for its song. It ended up winning two, for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for the song “Beauty and the Beast”. It also went on to win 3 Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (for ‘Beauty and the Beast’).

Well thats enough for the history lesson, you might find this funny but I had never seen Beauty and the Beast before well when I was growing up for me it was all Transformers and Ninja Turtles but a few weeks back I got invited by Disney to watch it in 3D and as far as conversions go this animated classic looks brilliant. Not to many films can match what Disney did 20 years ago, those stories are timeless and still a whole lot of fun for the whole family, the only thing I really noted was a couple of little scares throughout the film mainly with wolve’s and when the Beast got angry!

So if you sit back this weekend and think there’s nothing for you and the kids to do, take them to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D. I’m a bit of a sucker for these sorts of films and I might even go see it again, remember though it’s only in cinemas for a limited time so don’t wait!.

On a side note you do get to see a nice little short for the film ‘Tangled’ before the film! It was hilarious and as cute as the film.
