Bourne 4: Still Happening?

Bourne 4: Still Happening?

The Wrap reported that Universal Pictures announced that Tony Gilroy has been signed on to write a treatment for the fourth instalment of the Bourne franchise which is currently titled ‘The Bourne Legacy’.

Gilroy is credited with working on the screen play for the entire Bourne trilogy as well as a few other interesting films including ‘The Devil’s Advocate’, ‘Proof of Life’ and ‘State of Play’. He also wrote and directed both ‘Michael Clayton’ and ‘Duplicity’.

Neither Matt Damon or Paul Greengrass are currently attached to the project, rumours are that while Universal would like them both onboard they are willing to proceed without them if necessary.

Bourne 4 is tentatively scheduled for release in 2012 though much could change between now and then!

As a fan of the Bourne franchise I’m a little mixed on seeing another sequel being made, the Bourne Ultimatum certainly had a nice sense of resolution to the trilogy, though if the quality was maintained a sequel could be really good. Alternatively how about a prequel to Identity? The film could explore more of the characters path leading up to the failed mission that resulted in his amnesia.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
