Bourne Legacy Casting Rumours

The next film in the Bourne franchise titled ‘The Bourne Legacy’ is known not to have either Matt Damon or Paul Greengrass attached to the project and is reportedly taking place in the established universe, but will be quite separate to the events of the previous films. This instalment is not going to be a reboot, more of a sequel linked to the events of the trilogy, without delving too closely to that material.

Tony Gilroy is currently attached to direct the film, he has been involved in all three previous films in a writing capacity, and has directed the films ‘Duplicity’ and ‘Michael Clayton’. Jeremy Renner is also attached to the project and will be playing a new character in the series. Renner is currently involved in a number of franchise projects that will be seeing releases over the coming year or two. This includes a role in the new Mission Impossible film ‘Ghost Protocol’ alongside Tom Cruise, playing the role of Hawkeye in the Avengers film (keep your eye out for a cameo from him in ‘Thor’), as well as his role in the new Bourne film.

Its now reported that Rachel Weisz may also be under consideration for a role in the new Bourne film, Weisz has appeared in a number of films including recent films such as ‘The Lovely Bones’ and ‘The Whistleblower’. She is also currently attached to two films in pre-production including ‘The Danish Girl’ and ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’, so whether adding another film to her list of projects is a possibility we’ll have to wait and see.

‘The Bourne Legacy’ is currently scheduled to begin principal photography in September this year, with a release date during the second half of 2012. If Weisz is to be involved we should see a formal announcement soon.

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
