Sadly the news of a “sassy” new Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake was not simply a cruel hoax. They are still going ahead with it. Whit Anderson, The writer, had us fooled for a while by the fact there had been nothing happening toward it recently, he blamed Hollywood and now has assured us that things are going well. There have been a few rolled eyes and I’m sure a few encouraging nods from fans and actors alike but it hasn’t seemed to rock the boat as much as you would expect. No one seems to care that much, accept Sarah Michelle Gellar had something to say…
“It was a movie. It’s been made. It stars Kristy Swanson. They made it. They don’t need to make another one!”
“I think it’s a horrible idea. To try to do a ‘Buffy’ without Joss Whedon, I mean that’s, like, honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent: that’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.”
I’m sure some people may retort to that by saying that they expect her to bitter seeing as she will not be involved in this production, but I think it’s sae to say that if anyone knew anything about the character it would be SMG. There may be some bitterness floating around and, rightfully so, some territorial issues as well, But Joss created it, he helped it grow and made it an international success. It would be far simpler to ride on the Buffy train after the foundations are set so I’m inclined to go with SGM on this one.
As always I shall endeavour to keep an open mind and encourage others to do so as well. Will keep you posted on further news.
