Chasing Asylum Q&A

Chasing Asylum Q&A

Oscar winner Eva Orner’s (Taxi to the Dark Side) explosive documentary exposes the impact of Australia’s offshore detention policies and explores how political leaders have chosen detention ahead of compassion and governments deprive asylum seekers of their human rights.

Luna Palace is holding a Q&A screening event presented in association with CinemaPlus with Oscar winning director Eva Orner on Sunday 5 June at Luna Leederville following the 5.15pm session of her film. Featuring never before seen footage shot inside Australia’s offshore detention camps, CHASING ASYLUM looks at the impact of sending those in search of a safe home to languish in limbo.

Exploring the mental, physical and fiscal consequences of Australia’s decision to detain families in unsanitary conditions hidden from media scrutiny, CHASING ASYLUM promises to be a flashpoint for discussion in this federal election year.

Appearing in the film alongside asylum seekers who have spent time in detention on Nauru and
Manus Island and a number of former workers from inside the system who have participated exclusively
in the film and spoken out for the first time, are author and journalist David Marr, human rights lawyer,
David Manne, journalist Michael Bachelard and former prime minister Malcolm Fraser, in one of his final
interviews.
