From director Wes Anderson comes the acclaimed new comedy, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. Hailed as Anderson’s best film, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL will hit cinemas on April 10, 2014.
In celebration of this anticipated film release, the Luna Cinemas will undertake something never done before in Western Australia for a film release; the Luna Leederville will transform into The Grand Budapest Hotel for the opening weekend from April 10. Not only will the exterior and interior of the building become the famous European hotel from the movie, but a fully immersive cinema experience will unfold with hotel staff and characters from the film.
Wes Anderson’s films are distinctive for their stylistic look, dramatic characters, costumes and overall attention to detail. Perth based stylist Emma Bergmeier-Varian will be responsible for channelling this exceptional vision to the interior of the Luna Leederville to re-create the hotel lobby, a gallery space and lobby bar for the season of the film. Emma is a big Anderson fan, with a similar aesthetic and style that will bring the hotel to life.
On opening weekend, the Oxford Street exterior of the building will be transformed at night with spectacular projection imagery. In the film, Wes Anderson has created a fictional world in Eastern Europe known as The Republic of Zubrowka. With specialist projected light and animation by Roly Skender, Zubrowka will come to Oxford St Leederville!
Across opening weekend evening sessions on Thursday 10, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April, patrons seeing the film will enjoy a fully immersive experience as they “check-in” at the cinema. THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL features an array of memorable characters played by an amazing ensemble cast led by Ralph Fiennes, including Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson and Owen Wilson. Visitors to the Luna Leederville can expect to see some of these characters brought to life…
The film recounts the adventures of Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars – and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune – all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent
For those wanting to swan about the hotel there is plenty to do: enjoy a themed cocktail at The Grand Budapest Lobby Bar, browse the Grand Budapest Gallery, enjoy a complimentary Mendl’s cake (courtesy of Baked180), take in a game of the custom-made game “Guess Who” featuring the film’s characters, and take your picture at the Mendl’s cake box wall (and share it: #thegrandbudapesthotel).
