It may seem obvious, but it’s still great news: It is confirmed that Chewbacca will play a major role in the upcoming Han Solo stand alone flick due for release in 2018.
The news came from Disney CEO Bob Iger as he spoke about the timeframe of the upcoming ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY:
“ROGUE ONE is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star” Iger said.
“It takes place right before George Lucas’ first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called A NEW HOPE. We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy, and that’ll come after STAR WARS 8 in 2018”
Sure, Chewbacca being in the film seems pretty obvious, but this is the first confirmation of his presence. In fact, beyond Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy being quoted as saying the young Solo will be played by an actor in his twenties, little has been released in regards to specifics in the movie.
If Iger’s to be believed, we now know it’ll answer one of the biggest mysteries in the Star Wars canon: How did Han Solo and Chewbacca meet?
