San Diego Comic-Con 2026 delivered a huge few days of movie news, with Marvel Studios dominating Hall H while several major film projects also used the convention to build hype for what comes next.
From new Marvel announcements and major sequel teases to long-awaited franchise returns and fresh trailers, this year’s Comic-Con gave movie fans plenty to talk about.
Comic-Con 2026 Movie News: Marvel Dominates Hall H
The biggest film news came from Marvel Studios, which used its Comic-Con presentation to reveal several major updates for the future of the MCU.
Ryan Gosling was officially announced as the star of a new Ghost Rider movie, with Shawn Levy set to direct. The project marks Ghost Rider’s long-awaited arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the character’s previous standalone films starring Nicolas Cage.
Marvel also confirmed Black Panther III, with David Jonsson set to play the son of T’Challa. Ryan Coogler appeared on stage alongside Letitia Wright and Winston Duke for the announcement, with the film currently set for release in December 2028.
The studio also put Avengers: Doomsday front and centre, screening new footage for fans in Hall H. The footage teased Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom and his connection to Reed Richards and Sue Storm, played by Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby.
Marvel also confirmed that Avengers: Endgame will return to cinemas with additional footage designed to connect the 2019 blockbuster to Avengers: Doomsday.
The Doomsday presentation brought several big names to the stage, including Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Simu Liu, Paul Rudd, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, David Harbour and more. Ryan Reynolds also made a surprise appearance in a new grey Deadpool costume, adding another fan-baiting moment to the already packed panel.
Spaceballs: The New One Brings the Schwartz Back
Comic-Con also delivered a big nostalgia hit with Spaceballs: The New One, the long-awaited follow-up to Mel Brooks’ 1987 sci-fi parody classic.
The film is currently set to open in April 2027 and features returning names including Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman, alongside Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Josh Gad.
The Hall H panel leaned heavily into the film’s cult legacy, with the sequel looking to bring the world of Spaceballs back for a new generation while still embracing the absurd humour that made the original a fan favourite.
Matchbox: The Movie Gets Its First Big Push
Apple also used Comic-Con to showcase Matchbox: The Movie, its upcoming action-comedy based on the classic Mattel toy line.
John Cena leads the film alongside Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris and Arturo Castro, with the story following a group of childhood friends pulled into a high-stakes crisis connected to the iconic toy cars.
The film looks to mix practical stunts, action set pieces, comedy and nostalgia, with Cena describing it as a global thrill ride during the panel.
Brad Bird Shows Off Ray Gunn
Animation fans also had something to celebrate, with Brad Bird giving Comic-Con attendees a look at his upcoming Netflix animated neo-noir film Ray Gunn.
Bird, whose credits include The Iron Giant, Ratatouille and The Incredibles, screened early footage from the film during his Hall H appearance. The project has been a long-gestating passion project for the filmmaker, making its Comic-Con showcase a notable moment for animation fans.
Pan’s Labyrinth Returns for a 20th Anniversary Celebration
Guillermo del Toro also returned to Comic-Con to celebrate 20 years of Pan’s Labyrinth, with the dark fantasy classic being highlighted as part of a major anniversary push.
The film, originally released in 2006, remains one of del Toro’s most beloved works, and the Comic-Con celebration included discussion around its upcoming 3D and 4K presentation.
Comic-Con Proves the Big Screen Hype Machine Is Still Alive
While television and streaming series continued to have a major presence at San Diego Comic-Con, the biggest movie news showed that the convention remains a powerful launchpad for blockbuster excitement.
