Darran’s Top 10 Films of 2017

Darran’s Top 10 Films of 2017

It’s that time again where we look back on the year that is 2017, it was a fairly difficult year to narrow the films down to a top ten so make sure you check out my notable mentions list at the bottom aswell. Let’s kick it off with Number 10.

10. Loving

The incredible true story of true story of Richard and Mildred Loving played by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, directed by Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter, Midnight Special). Listen to our interview with Jeff here.

9. Thor: Ragnarok

Taika Waititi flipped Marvel on its head to deliver one of its best yet.. rumour has it he’s doing a Star Wars film aswell.

8. Wonder Woman

Was finally great to see Warner Bros. & DC Films deliver a decent film..

7. Moonlight

A truly beautiful film that totally deserved to win the Academy Award for Best Picture earlier this year.

6. Split

Incredible performance from McAvoy

5. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

It has its faults but overall I loved the direction this film went in, bit sad that the film is being hammered by some but I guess we should all be thankful we even get more Star Wars stories in the first place.

4. The Big Sick

Another surprising film this year, its the true story of how Kumail Nanjiani (who plays himself) met his partner.. definitely check it out

3. IT

For those that know me personally know that I’m a complete pussy and can’t do scary films BUT this film was brilliant, the kids from the loser club made this film plus obviously Bill’s take on Pennywise.. listen to our interview with Nicholas Hamilton, leader of the Bowers Gang.

2. Logan

Hugh Jackman in a career defining performance absolutely broke me, even re-watching the trailer is making me tear-up.

1. The Disaster Artist

It had to be this one that hit my number 1 spot, I don’t know if its just the incredible transformation of James Franco but I absolutely loved this story.

Best Australian Film this year is Hounds of Love from director Ben Young it nearly got in at number 10 but I sat there looking at the list for two hours and couldn’t change the above, notable mentions also include – Jackie, Lion, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049, Brigsby Bear, I am Heath Ledger, Hidden Figures and The Greatest Showman.

Worst Films of the Year – Assassin’s Creed, Collateral Beauty, A Few Less Men and The Shack.

That’s it for another year, roll on 2018!
