Various news items have been floating around about another possible ‘Die Hard’ film since ‘Die Hard 4.0’ (Live Free or Die Hard) was released in cinemas, so it’s no real surprise that the project is still moving along and appears to now have officially appointed a director for the sequel.
The last ‘Die Hard’ sequel was released in 2007, and really took it upon itself to widen up on the scope over what the previous films had done. The final result was quite mixed however this didn’t stop it’s financial performance with world wide theatrical revenues of approximately $384 million from a production budget of $110 million which is quite modest by today’s standards.
It seems that the next ‘Die Hard’ film is going to continue along the same route as the previous film with things becoming more globally orientated with a story that is rumoured to take place in Russia.
John Moore is the man that’s taking on the directorial duties of the likely blockbuster, his previous efforts have included ‘Behind Enemy Lines’, ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ as well as the more recent film ‘Max Payne’.
Looking at his previous works and thinking about what makes ‘Die Hard’ so great, I’m somewhat concerned that Moore isn’t going to quite deliver on the action that we’ve come to expect from the ‘Die Hard’ films (with some instalments doing it better than others). ‘Max Payne’ was certainly lack lustre at least in the action aspects of the film, but hopefully Moore’s vision on Die Hard won’t disappoint.
Lets us know in the comments section below how you feel about the ‘Die Hard’ franchise rolling on into a fifth film, are you still excited? What’s your favourite instalment so far?
For the record I’d rate them in order of preference as ‘Die Hard 1’, ‘Die Hard: With a Vengeance’, ‘Live Free or Die Hard’, and lastly ‘Die Hard 2: Die Harder’.
