Variety has reported that January Jones has joined the cast of Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class in the role of Emma Frost. Jones’s previous films have included ‘American Pie: The Wedding’, ‘Love Actually’, ‘The Boat that Rocked’, as well as several episodes of ‘Mad Men’. She currently has two films in post-production called ‘The Hungry Rabbit Jumps’ and ‘Unknown White Male’ which are scheduled for release in 2010 and 2011 respectively. The news comes as a small surprise as previous reports had indicated Alice Eve (‘She’s Out of My League’) had already been cast in the role.
The character Emma Frost first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 in 1980, and was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. In the source material Frost is a mutant telepath who has gone from one of the X-Men’s foes to a key member. A young version of Emma Frost appeared momentarily in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ that was released in 2009 portrayed by actress Tahyna Tozzi.
Jones joins a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Bacon, and Lucas Till.
X-Men: First Class is currently scheduled for a June 2011 release.
