It’s no secret the last few Transformers films haven’t been up to par, despite those films having earned bucket-loads of cash. Speaking personally, I don’t think this series of movies has been awesome since the original, BUT Paramount will continue to churn them out because of said bucket-loads of cash.
Now I’m a total Michael Bay fanboy, I love his stuff. I re-watched 13 HOURS IN BENGHAZI the other week and I totally dug it, maybe because it was based on a true story, so technically, Bay can’t have had that much creative control story-wise, but who knows? The guy definitely knows how to shoot a film, but for some reason he often takes the Transformers movies too far over-the-top or they turn out plain stupid. And don’t get me started on the “Romeo and Juliet Law” idiocy in the last one. I also don’t understand why so many action films make a massive spectacle out of the third act. The recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, which Bay also produced, are a case in point. In the original 1990 film, Splinter just kicked Shredder’s ass on a rooftop… and done. Perfect! I’m pretty sure the whole sequence was over in 10 minutes and didn’t use any special effects other than puppets.
Anyways, rant over; this trailer is the best so far and in all honesty, I’m looking forward to the finished film and hope—fingers crossed—that it’s a return to form. TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT opens June 22.
And yes, adding Antony Hopkins to the cast earns it extra points.
