While Baz Luhrmann divided audiences and critics alike with his film THE GREAT GATBSY, the powers that be in Aussie film and TV have given it a rather dramatic nod of approval at the AACTA Awards in Sydney.
Luhrmann is an acquired taste. It’s no secret his movies are passionately despised by half the population, while the other half adores them.
Today’s events suggest the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is of the adoring variety, positively throwing awards Baz’s way during our Aussie equivalent to the Oscars.
While the big categories such as Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director etc are yet to be announced, a truckload of technical awards have already been sent Gatsby’s way at the ceremony held in Sydney today.
The film was crowned the winner in:
Best Visual Effects
Best Cinematography
Best Editing
Best Sound
Best Original Score
Best Production Design
Best Costume Design
In fact, THE GREAT GATSBY won every feature film award announced today. Ouch!
The remaining awards will be announced at a gala event on Thursday evening. Channel 10 will be airing the ceremony.
