With DC and Warner Bros continuing to build momentum on their ambitions movie plans, following up the recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad trailers that came out of Comic-Con International earlier this month, was the announcement (or clarification of the previous announcement) of the next live action version of a Green Lantern film.
The not so successful previous take on the series starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively in 2011 has been left aside after just the one film, and the new version which had already been hinted at, has now been confirmed as a Green Lantern Corps film.
Those familiar with the character and mythology would of course know that Hal Jordan (the most well-known Green Lantern) is but one of a large corps who patrol the many sectors of space keeping peace across the galaxy. The title of Green Lantern Corps implies the new film will centre on perhaps a group of Green Lanterns rather than just the one.
The new film will be designed to coexist as part of the wider DC film setting that began with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and continues with Dawn of Justice which not only see’s the introduction of Batman but Wonder Woman as well.
There are few other confirmed details around this particular project, previous rumours suggested that Chris Pine was being pursued to play Hal Jordan, however other rumours suggest Hal may not even appear, and that John Stewart will be the leading character in the new film.
No dates have been announced, though the planned release window is reported to be 2020, so while there are lots of projects in the works on the DC front, none of them appear to be in a hurry to rush out the door.
Plenty of time to sit back and pontificate on what you think the necessary ingredients would be for a great Green Lantern film!
