Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in full swing now with ‘Iron Man 3’ having been released recently and ‘Thor: The Dark World’ less than six months away. Captain America is returning of course but new marvel franchise on the block is ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, an outer space adventure that I’m wagering will portray plot centric events in the build-up to ‘Avengers 2’. With an approximate release schedule of August 2014 and a likely long post-production schedule, work on the film is ramping up and we’re seeing a steady flow of casting announcements coming through. The most recent of which have included Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan joining Guardians in the role of a villain, as well as Benicio Del Toro (Sin City).
It has further been reported that at least Benicio’s role will continue into other Marvel films, and given that Guardians is due to follow ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, it’s possible this means we’ll be seeing him in ‘Avengers 2’.
Del Toro and Gillan join previously announced cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Glen Close, and Michael Rooker.
