Marvel has released its first image for the movie GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Although the Guardians of the Galaxy comic has existed since 1969, the movie is based on the 2008 reboot.
The film will concern adventurer Peter Quill who finds himself the object of a bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora, and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his rivals for a last, desperate stand.
The image of the line-up is similar to one shown at 2013 Comic-Con, but this is the first time the movie characters have been seen by a wider public. Unlike Captain America, Thor and Iron Man the characters who make up the current Guardians of the Galaxy, haven’t had decades of public awareness to prepare the way for the movie, so it will be interesting to see how this latest expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fares at the box office.
The live action elements of the 3D movie were shot between June and October 2013 and the film will have its US launch in August 2014.
